What Is a Gable Carport?
A gable carport features a pitched roof with two sloping sides meeting at a central ridge, forming a triangular gable at each end.
This design is popular across Australia because it provides:
- Increased internal height
- Better airflow and ventilation
- A classic look that suits many homes
Why Choose a Gable Carport?
More Clearance Where You Need It
The higher centre ridge makes gable carports ideal for larger vehicles such as boats, caravans, and 4WDs. Maximum clearance is achieved when gable infills are removed, giving you full use of the internal height.
Improved Airflow & Heat Reduction
The pitched roof allows hot air to rise and escape, helping keep the area cooler. There is a choice of roof pitches to suit most homes and properties. Choose from 10 degrees, 15 degrees and 20 degrees.
Strong, Proven Design
Gable roofs are widely used across Australia and perform well when engineered correctly.
Traditional & Versatile Appearance
They suit a wide range of home styles, from modern to classic builds.

Gable vs Skillion vs Hip Carports
Choosing the right style depends on your needs:

Skillion Carports

- Simpler construction
Hip Roof Carports
- Premium appearance
- More complex structure
We can help you choose the best option for your property.
Choose Your Colorbond® Colour
Your gable carport shouldn’t just protect your vehicles; it should look like it was always meant to be part of your home.
Because we manufacture using 100% genuine Australian BlueScope steel, your carport kit is available in the complete range of Colorbond® steel colours. Whether you want to match your existing roofline, blend into a rural landscape, or create a striking modern contrast, we have you covered.
Currently Popular Carport Colours:
- Monument®: A deep, bold charcoal that is the most requested colour for modern and contemporary Australian homes.
- Surfmist®: A fresh, thermally efficient off-white that is perfect for coastal builds, Hamptons styles, and keeping the area underneath cooler.
- Woodland Grey®: A timeless, natural tone that blends seamlessly into bushland, rural properties, and traditional suburban streetscapes.
- Shale Grey™: A soft, versatile neutral that pairs perfectly with modern brickwork and render.
Tip: You can choose to have your roof sheeting, gutters, flashings, and downpipes all in the same colour, or mix and match (e.g., a Surfmist roof with Monument gutters or Gable Infill) for a custom architectural finish.

What’s Required to Build This DIY Kit?
Our gable carport kits are engineered with the DIY builder in mind. Because we don’t supply generic off-the-shelf products, your kit is manufactured to your exact dimensions with components that are designed to fit together seamlessly.
- Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate DIY or Builder. If you are comfortable using a drill, a spirit level, and setting concrete footings, you can build this carport.
